Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in conjunction with three companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the use and recycling of plastic waste as a means of protecting the environment against harmful waste products.

Studies estimate that in Uganda an average of 1500 tons of plastic waste are generated daily with only 500 tons probably managed which indicates a collection efficiency of 30% implying that most of the waste generated is not safely recycled and goes into the environment.
Dorothy Kisaka the KCCA Executive Director while officiating at the signing ceremony at KCCA grounds said that this collaboration is going to help create more jobs through industries that recycle hence zero disposal and environment improvement.
She has disclosed that working together will create an ecosystem that guarantees the continued survival of nature as well as provide a market for valued added recycled plastic that can be locally consumed.
