Members on the defence committee of parliament

Members on the defence committee of parliament have objected to a cut in the police budget for crime intelligence gathering.

The Police presented their budget proposals to the committee for the financial Year 2022/23 totaling Shs840 billion.

Currently, the force needs Shs304 billion annually for crime intelligence but only gets Shs 42.7 billion.

MPs on the committee led by the shadow minister for internal affairs Abdallah Kiwanuka and Lwemiyaga county Mp Theodore Ssekikuubo questioned the intention of the ministry of finance to deduct the money for crime investigations.

The MPs says this is an area which needs a lot of money for the police to perform well because most of the cases they handle need thorough investigations.
